Joy Haddleton, Features Editor
Junior Joy Haddleton is joining the Blueprint staff for her first year as a Features Editor. Last year, she took Journalistic Expression, joined the journalism team placing 4th at sectionals for Features Writing and won first place for Best Audio Journalism in the Illinois Journalism Education Association (IJEA) digital media contest in the spring of 2025. Originally interested in creative writing, Haddleton has found another passion in journalism.
Outside of the Blueprint, Haddleton is an honor roll student, a PE leader, co-founder and co-leader of SWENext, a member of the varsity scholastic bowl team, a German club leader and a participant in DGS drama. Away from school, she is a lifelong Girl Scout, and through that has served as a counselor-in-training, completed a one-year term as a girl representative to the board of directors of the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, has started her three-year term as a national delegate and is working towards her gold award, a Girl Scout’s highest achievement. Haddleton is also active in community theater throughout the year, both onstage and off, and in her free time enjoys horseback riding, listening to music and reading.
In the future, Haddleton hopes to study marine biology with a focus on marine mammal behavior. She is involved with the Acadia Institute of Oceanography and Sea Star Explorations to begin pursuing this interest early on.
