After four years at DGS I have had a lot of time to eat and think about the best cafeteria foods at DGS. Contrary to what you see on TV and in the movies, it is my belief that DGS has pretty good food all things considered. So in honor of graduating next week, this is my official ranking of my top 10 cafeteria foods at DGS.
10. Snack Box
The snack box is simply a go-to. With a good options of cubed cheese, pepperoni, ritz crackers and grapes, this is a well rounded meal that can never really do you wrong. You can buy this at almost all places in DGS from the Cafe to the Stable it is simply a DGS staple.
9. Pesto pasta salad
The pasta salad is an elusive option at the DGS cafe but when it is there it comes in a variety of options, pesto pasta being one of them. For me personally the pesto is a little overpowering and can take away from the other things in the salad. It doesn’t mean this salad is bad but at times this salad tends to have pasta that is a little too al dente for me personally.
8. Glazed Twist
The glazed twist is a staple at the donut stand at the DGS cafe. However it is usually a last option for me if the Boston cream or the chocolate long john are not available. This is still a good option and I personally believe that the donut quality at the DGS cafe is just as good if not better than your average Dunkin Donut and I will die on that hill.
7. BLT pasta salad
The BLT pasta salad is the second best pasta salad at DGS but it is an incredibly rare find. The pasta is always delicious and there is a perfect pasta to sauce ratio. My favorite part of the BLT pasta salad is the bacon bits that are in the salad because it really adds the perfect crunch to make the salad great.
6. Boston Cream
The Boston cream donut at the cafe is one of my favorite treats on a day where I have a lot of homework or a test. A Boston cream is my favorite donut outside of DGS and this is a solid version if you are looking for a little more than just a plain donut. Although sometimes the cream inside can be hit or miss, but when it is good, it truly is great.
5. Alfredo Pasta
I only started journeying into the world of pasta at the end of my junior year and I sincerely regret not doing it earlier. The Alfredo pasta is perfect if you are genuinely hungry for lunch and want something that is going to leave you full later. It is just a solid bowl of pasta that I really enjoy every time I have it. Pasta is found in the cafeteria.
4. Tater tots
The tater tots found under the hot lamps at the DGS Stable are absolutely delicious. This ranking may be swayed by the fact that I just really like tater tots in generally but when I go to get lunch at the Stable and tater tots are there, it really does brighten my day. The cheese on top is just warm goodness and it is a great rendition of a classic lunch room item.
3. Greek pasta salad
As you can tell, I really love the DGS pasta salads, but the absolute goat of these pastas is the greek salad. This is for one main reason, Kalamata olives. These olives are the best part of this salad and even if I didn’t plan on getting lunch if I see the Greek pasta salad I will always be purchasing and I will never regret it.
2. Chocolate long john
This is a top tier item at the DGS cafe. There is a reason why they are always out when you go to the cafe. Freshman year I would get this donut every. single. day. and it was so good every single time. I now only get this for special occasions but only because it is so good it feels like a reward. I believe these are better than the Dunkin Donut long johns and absolute recommend.
1. Mac and Cheese
The first time I had the Mac and Cheese in the cafetorium my life was changed. I am what I would consider a mac and cheese connoisseur and this is a such a good choice. The sauce is so cheesy and it is such a good option if you want a good filling lunch. When I graduate and go off to college I will have dreams of the mac and cheese in the DGS cafeteria, so enjoy it while you can.
