What a season it has been, and now it comes down to two final teams in the Super Bowl: the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. Each team is in the number one seed position, which is the first time since 2017. Let’s take a deeper dive into each team to see how they will fare on Sunday.

Eagles

The Eagles have had a historic season. They ranked at the number one leading team this season in sacks and third overall with 70 sacks. Leading that group is Hassan Reddick, who already has 3.5 sacks in the postseason. Their offense has been spectacular too.

The Eagles have the third highest scoring offense in the league at 28.1 points per game. One of their biggest strengths is their run game, although they are ranking fifth in the league in yards per game. When a team has a strong running game, they are bound to make trouble.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been dominant on all cylinders for the Eagles. The Eagles passing game is ranked ninth in the league with 256.7 yards per game, and Hurts’ total pass yards this season is 3,701 which is 10th in the league.

Granted, he has had a lot of help with his receivers A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. Brown totaled up for 1,496 yards receiving which is fourth in the league. Smith, on the other hand, has been able to compliment what Brown has done, totaling 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns.

This is the fourth time the Eagles have made the Super Bowl, and this is second time the Eagles have made the Super Bowl in the past five years making their last appearance in Super Bowl 52.

C

Going into the season, there had been a lot of questions surrounding what the team might accomplish after losing one of their key players, Tyreek Hill, to the Miami Dolphins, but it seems all you need is Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce to get to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs made their appearance breezing through a tough AFC West division by shutting out the Jaguars. They met their match when facing the Bengals. There was a lot of pressure to win this game since both teams had met last year and the Chiefs had fallen to the Bengals. Even the Mayor of Cincinnati joined in on the heckling of Chiefs fans and Chiefs Kingdom.

Many counted the Chiefs out because of a high ankle sprain injury Mahomes had suffered in the week before against the Jaguars but many forget this is Mahomes, who is in the running for the G.O.A.T of football.

The Chiefs had the highest scoring offense this season and, as expected, most of it came from the pass game. Mahomes and his offense averaged 308.8 yards per game passing, the highest of any team in the NFL. Most of those yards went to Travis Kelce with his 1,388 yards receiving this season.

However, the run game hasn’t been up to par for the Chiefs, ranking 20th in the league. Their main back, Isaiah Pacheco, only had 830 rushing yards this season, which is underwhelming for modern day running backs.

Although their defense has many key players fans need to recognize, like Chris Jones. Jones has had 15 sacks in total for the regular season. Jones was complemented by another game wrecker, Frank Clark. The Chiefs are second in the league in sacks per game.

Potential Outcome

There are a lot of potential outcomes to this game. Generally, though, the Eagles are weighted as the favored team to win the Super Bowl by 1.5 points. A great season ended with a great game.
