On Sept. 8, 2023, DGS varsity football (0-3) suffered a 47-7 loss to out-of-conference opponent York High School (3-0). DGS had a tough time getting the offense going, with 58 total yards.
South’s one touchdown came in the fourth, with a bruising run by defensive lineman Ryker Dudley.
Scoring was opened by York, who went up 26-0 after the first half. They produced three touchdown passes and a field goal on offense, while the defense was able to add two more points with a safety in the second quarter. York played just as well in the second half, putting up 21 more points, putting the final score at 47-7.
DGS looks to repeat as conference champs as West Suburban Gold Conference play begins against Willowbrook next week on senior night. Willowbrook hopes to avenge a 28-13 loss last year to the Mustangs that cost them first in conference. Last week they put up a 42-0 shutout at Addison Trail, dominant on both sides of the ball.
“We just gotta shake it off and respond to adversity. We have a really good opportunity this week against Willowbrook. We stack really well against them,” senior receiver Josh Weber said.
