Harry Styles: Where is he now?
This decade has brought about some very influential names in music: Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Post Malone, and of course…Harry Styles. Styles has experienced a multitude of success since the beginning of the decade, from being on the X-Factor to a highly anticipated solo career following One Direction. This success can be hard to keep up with, which begs the question…
Where is he now?
In 2010, Styles found his way into the spotlight after he secured a spot on X-Factor. Here, he discovered his home in a band known as One Direction that would eventually skyrocket him into fame.
Even after losing X-Factor, One Direction quickly took the world by storm. If five world tours wasn’t enough, they also have a combined net worth of $150 million dollars and a plethora of industry awards. They earned their place as one of the biggest bands in history, being compared to the likes of the Beatles in terms of stardom.
Styles was the unofficial leader of the group, earning some of the most vocal time compared to the rest of the band. While part of One Direction, Styles was able to establish his songwriting skills, especially with songs like “Happily.”
However, each tour doubled in grandeur and Styles and the other band members decided that it was time for a break. After six years of non stop touring, One Direction officially went on “hiatus” in January of 2016.
Immediately after his departure from One Direction, Styles seemed to find a freedom that wasn’t there before. Within a few months he had chopped off his long locks of hair, landed a role in Christopher Nolan’s movie “Dunkirk” and signed his own solo deal with Columbia Records.
Fans eagerly waited for months for the debut of Styles’s first album, and in April of 2017 he released his first single “Sign of the Times.” The rock ballad was a completely new direction for Styles and hinted at what was to come with his new career. Shortly after, he released another single “Sweet Creature” and had the opportunity to perform both songs on SNL.
The debut of his self titled album “Harry Styles” was released May 12, 2017. The album was the complete opposite of his One Direction career, it was unpredictable and uncensored. Songs ranged from rock hits like “Kiwi” to indie lullabies such as “From the Dining Table.”
As the album soared in sales, eventually earning a platinum certification in the US, Styles was in the midst of a world tour accompanied by the likes of artists Kacey Musgraves and Muna in 2017 and 2018.
While Styles seemed to have taken a break for much of 2019, he slowly made his way back into pop culture in time to release his highly anticipated second album “Fine Line.” In Oct. of 2019, Styles dropped his single “Lights Up.” The psychedelic pop ballad was followed by two other singles: “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You.”
Styles has proven time and time again that he is one of the most talented performers of this decade. He has done it all– from hosting SNL to the Met Gala. While the 1D’s split broke many fan’s hearts, Styles was finally able to express himself in ways that he was never able to before, securing him as one of the most successful solo debuts to date.
