The Red Bull flavors that give you wings
I love Red Bull. Despite the obvious health concerns, I can’t seem to stop myself from buying a pack every time I make a trip to Jewel-Osco. The most jealous I’ve ever been was when the Red Bull truck surprised my coworkers by stopping at my work to hand-deliver every flavor to them.
I am extremely passionate about Red Bull, meaning this ranking is probably the most accurate one that you’ll read.
10th place: Purple edition
I had high hopes for the acai berry Red Bull, just the mention of acai gave it an illusion that it might be somewhat healthier than the others. Unfortunately, this tasted like straight-up cough syrup. I enjoyed cough syrup as a kid because it was somewhat sugary, but this was unlike anything I’ve encountered…it was so much worse.
9th place: Orange edition
The tangerine Red Bull is really not my cup of tea. I’ve never really liked anything orange or tangerine flavored, so I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t like it. Frankly, it tastes like cleaning supplies to me.
8th place: Red edition
The cranberry Red Bull isn’t exactly bad, it just tastes like cranberry juice that was zapped with a taser. I genuinely enjoy cranberry juice, but I was hoping for a flavor that was more reminiscent of the cranberry Sierra Mist. I would buy this again, though.
7th place: Yellow edition
The tropical Red Bull is actually fairly good. My only complaint is that the flavor seems a bit overdone and I’ve had better tropical-flavored energy drinks. Despite this, I wasn’t revolting while drinking it like I was with the acai-berry.
6th place: Blue edition
Although Red Bull is its own original flavor, to me it kind of taste like blueberries. The blueberry Red Bull is kind of like an amped-up version of the original with a more intense blueberry flavor and much sweeter. I always feel like Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate factory whenever I drink this, which in this case is a good thing.
5th place: Pear edition
The pear Red Bull is a fresh, new flavor that I welcomed. The flavor was original and absolutely delicious. I haven’t had a pear in years, mostly because I’m allergic, but this made me want to risk it all and try them again.
4th place: Peach edition
Like the pear edition, this drink also makes me want to forego my allergy to tree fruits and eat a basket of peaches. The peach Red Bull is not too sweet with just the right amount of peach flavor for it not to be overbearing. This flavor reminds me of spring when you are filled with hope and everything has a sense of opportunity; this is especially welcomed during days where I leave school at 8 p.m. while it’s 40 degrees out and there is not a shred of sunlight in the sky then realize I still have homework to do.
3rd place: Green edition
The kiwi-apple Red Bull is like the nectar of Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards. The apple flavor is familiar and welcoming, but the edition of kiwi to the mix makes it otherworldly. Strawberry-kiwi better step aside and allow kiwi-apple to take its rightful place as the best kiwi combination.
2nd place: Original Red Bull
The sense of nostalgia many people feel towards drinks like hot cocoa or lemonade is the exact feeling I have with the original Red Bull. Something about the original flavor is almost unbeatable, it’s not too sweet like so many energy drinks. The original Red Bull was there for me when others physically could not be there to provide the caffeinated support I needed…I am seriously tearing up right now thinking about this drink.
1st place: Coconut edition
This may be the most controversial statement I’ve ever made, but it must be said: the coconut berry Red Bull is the best Red Bull I’ve ever had. I understand that coconut is not everyone’s first choice, but this drink is doing what other “tropical” flavors wish they could accomplish. I honestly think I could write a full-fledged essay on how delicious this energy drink is, but for now, all I can say is that if you like coconut or berry flavored things, you will absolutely love this.
