Celebrate Memorial Day correctly
More stories from Megan Albers
On Monday, May 29, Americans across the nation will take the day of off school or work to celebrate Memorial Day… not Veterans Day.
I feel it necessary to differentiate between two very important days in our country’s history so that us Americans can not only sound more knowledgeable but also truly respect those who deserve it.
Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov 11 in order to honor all those who’ve served. On this day, we should thank those who’ve done any kind of service for our country.
Memorial Day on the other hand, is celebrated on the last Monday of May in order to honor and memorialize those who have died fighting for their country. On this day, we should remember those veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice and thank their families for their beloved man or women’s sacrifice.
If you’re like me, songs help make you feel like you’re not so alone. So I compiled a list of songs that you can play to memorialize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice on a day like today:
- “If You’re Reading This” Tim McGraw
- “Arlington” Trace Adkins
- “Riding with Private Malone” David Ball
- “Letters from Home” John Michael Montgomery
- “American Soldier” Toby Keith
- “God Bless the U.S.A” Lee Greenwood
- “More Than a Name on a Wall” Statler Brothers
Enjoy your Memorial Day and remember the difference.
