The correct order in which to watch the MCU

Come with me… and you’ll see… it’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel fans are old and young from all over the world and yet the one thing that seems to divide them, other than whether Thor or Captain America is better, is whether the Marvel Cinematic Universe is better watched in movie release or chronological order.

Whether or not you’ve watched a Marvel movie before, watching chronologically is the better way to experience the franchise. Here is why you should watch in chronological order If you are new to the MCU.

When you read a book you have never read before, do you read from the middle or start at the beginning? That’s right, you start at the beginning. If you said that you start in the middle, stay away from me.

Same with the MCU; It’s better to start in the beginning of the story so you have a firm grasp over what is going on in this universe. As someone who watched the series out of order in the beginning, I know how it is to not be able to understand what is going on, especially since everything that happens in the beginning directly correlates with the end.

If you aren’t convinced, consider the ever-so-famous, cliffhanger end credits scene that Marvel is best known for lining up perfectly. Each of these end credits scenes acts as a little easter egg for the future of the MCU. When out of order, they spoil upcoming releases but when in order, they are comparable to freshly baked brownies.

If you are a seasoned MCU traverser, here is why you should watch in chronological order.

Not all Marvel movies are released in the order that they are supposed to be. Take Carol Danvers for instance; instead of riding her way to glory back in 2017, the release date for Captain Marvel was instead delayed a full 2 years before it was released November 2019.

Furthermore, If you started watching the Avengers franchise when it began, you probably started off with “Iron Man.” By choosing to re-watch the movies starting with “Captain America: The First Avenger,” you open yourself up to experiencing the MCU in a whole new way, and you will be able to pick up on little easter eggs.

Thus, our time together has come to an end, and I hope you think of these reasons when you decide how you want to start re-watching the MCU next time. Just know I will judge you for your choice. Oh, and Thor is obviously better than Captain America.
