Mustang baseball tops Lyons Township

Jordan Knoch doubled in the bottom of the 10th inning driving in Nick Stacey to take a walk-off win against the Lyons Township Lions, 6-5.

Stacey went 2 for 5 and put himself into scoring position in the 10th for Knoch.

The offensive efforts for the Mustangs were perfectly timed, and when they scored, they scored in bursts. Jack Blazevich went 3 for 4 and came up big in clutch situations and drove in half of the team’s runs. “I let my natural abilities take over in the box, I was just trying to play baseball and I trusted the process,” Blazevich said.

It was back and forth for most of the game with the score tied 5-5 for the final three innings.

The Mustangs used two pitchers with each going five innings. Cameron Crowley pitched the first five innings, giving up four runs while striking out three. “I spotted my fastball very well and they were not hitting it; my curve ball though was flat and they took advantage. Stacey had some awesome plays in the outfield that picked me up as well,” Crowley said.

Andrew Alfini pitched the last five innings and held the Lions to one run while striking out six with no walks.

“Our offense was not what it needed to be for the first few innings and our pitching kept us in the game,” Head Coach Darren Oral said.

The Lion’s pitching for the first five innings allowed three runs and struck out seven. The Lion’s offense produced four runs in five innings, but after that was very quiet with only a small rally in the seventh to score the tying run.
