On March 1, 2018 the District 99 Education Foundation will host its fifth annual Pizza Wars. The event will take place in the DGS cafeteria from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Pizza Wars brings a variety of different pizza vendors from around the Downers Grove, Woodridge and Westmont areas together to compete head to head for the overall best pizza title. After paying a ticket price of either $10 online or $15 at the door, attendees will be free to sample pizza from nine different local vendors.

The 2017 winner, Tortorice’s Pizza will be attending the event again to defend its title against Nancy’s Pizza, Papa’s Pizza Place, Skuttlebuts Pizza, NY Pizza Pie, Olive Theory Pizzeria, L & F Pizza, Woodgrain Neapolitan Pizza and Lou Malnati’s Pizza.

After the tasting portion of the night is concluded around 7:15 p.m. people will vote on their favorite crust, sauce and an overall winner. The winners of each category will be announced at approximately 7:30 p.m. and the restaurant with the overall best pizza will be awarded a champion plaque to display at their location.

Pizza Wars is one of the events that the District 99 Education Foundation hosts in order to raise money to support District 99 teachers and schools. The money raised at this event will go towards accomplishing the foundation’s overall goal of supporting innovative curriculum and technologies in District 99 schools that “fall out of traditional public spending,” as stated on their website.

All members of the community are invited to attend Pizza Wars.
