This week DGS football, with a record of 4-3, faces off against rival DGN with a losing record of 3-4.  These two teams will go head to head in an important divisional game on Oct. 13 with a breast cancer awareness theme.

Last week DGS scampered away in a blowout win against Leyden High School with a score of 20-0. DGN played against the LaGrange Lyons, but were unsuccessful falling to LaGrange by a score of 31-28.

Both teams appear ready to play at a level that promises success for their schools and their national ranks back that claim; DGS is ranked nationally at #3031 while DGN stands at #2495. While there is a significant gap between the two teams, both teams have proven they can take control of the game, but also can have them spiral out of control.

DGS senior Viraj Gupta, a varsity football player, shared his mindset before the game, and it carries a great amount of weight for him.

“If we focus on being one and zero by the end of the game we will end up being successful,” Gupta said.

If this focus can be carried out by him and his teammates, they’re in store for a promising game.

Coach Mark Molinari said that his athletes have been working hard and are prepared for this important game.

“You always practice for the top opponent in the conference and you always practice for your rivalry game. So we definitely spent time during the summer preparing for North … So we always give time to our rivalry games … we definitely did some things over the summer to prepare us for North,”  Molinari said.

If you’re not busy,  make sure you attend this must-win game for DGS and DGN and feel free to join in on the theme by wearing pink to support those who were afflicted by breast cancer.
