On Tuesday, May 16 the varsity girls soccer team came out victorious against Whitney Young High School in their first IHSA Regional game.
Starting slow, the girls entered the second half tied at zero when junior Jennifer Masello scored the winning goal.
“When I kicked the ball it took a lucky bounce and went over the goalies head, it was a close call but ended in our favor,” Masello said.
The team will continue into the Regional Championship on Friday, May 19 against crosstown rival DGN. When the girls last played DGN the game ended in a tie at 0-0.
Varsity Head Coach Chris Hernandez has high expectations for the team entering into the Friday night game.
“Practices have a different mindset when preparing for a crosstown game. It will be a matter of working hard. That’s what makes this team so special is that they always are willing to work hard,” Hernandez said.
The girls will be playing at their home field on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
