Outside of being a busy time for schoolwork and Halloween cheer, October is jam-packed with video game releases. Here are some of the most anticipated video games of the month.
5. Tales of Xillia Remastered:
This remastered game is from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era of role-playing games. The game includes updated visuals as well as revamped, high quality animated cut-scenes. Players take the role of two different protagonists, and travel through a world inhabited by humans and spirits. At its core, Tales of Xillia is an action packed, character driven fantasy using a non-traditional form of real time combat.
Compared to the original Tales of Xillia, this game’s enhanced and streamlined features make it easier for players to travel through its world and level up their characters.
4. Absolum:
An action-based game inspired by 90’s era arcade games, focusing on hand to hand combat. Absolum’s gritty comic-book inspired artstyle and use of immersive world-changing storytelling to elevate its action-based gameplay elevates the games already fast-paced combat. Players are able to attack their enemies with quick combinations of attacks, are able to unlock new paths to traverse and can customize their characters powers and abilities throughout the game, as they explore multiple different areas and encounter hordes of enemies and bosses.
3. Ghost of Yotei:
Ghost of Yotei speaks for itself as a premium package of an open-world action game. With newly added mechanics to combat, such as having wolves fight by your side against your enemies, as well as an interesting story of personal vengeance. Yotei carries the same amount of quality, charm and artistic esthetic of the previous game in the series; it is an easy recommendation to avid enjoyers of open world action games. Some gamers won’t enjoy Yotei due to its expansive nature and Playstation 5 exclusivity.
2. Mina The Hollower:
This top-down perspective platformer’s simple but satisfying character movement allows for a swift and fun gameplay experience. Platforming challenges and fast paced combat utilizing a plethora of weapons are also featured, reminiscent of previous games of the classic action-adventure genre. Mina The Hollower’s quick and responsive character movement are all elevated by classic Game Boy-era pixel art and aesthetic.
1. Digimon Story: Time Stranger
Time Stranger is very easy to learn due to its simple-to-understand combat, is diverse in gameplay through the plentiful amount of Digimon to train and ride across terrain with and its focus on narrative makes this game highly recommended to all players. Following a member of a secret organization focused on dealing with strange anomalies, players are wrapped up in a larger-than-life case, travelling through time and between worlds, all the while a plot endangering the world itself is growing in the background.
Time Stranger is easily understandable in both gameplay and story to both Digimon fans and general audiences.
This fall, students have a variety of options to choose from for which to spend their free time, from highly anticipated role-played action games, platforming action adventures and story driven open world games. For video game players, this list is a must-see.
