On August 9th, 2024, Beabadoobee released her third studio album, “This Is How Tomorrow Moves”. With upbeat tracks like “Beaches” and “Take A Bite” to slow ballads such as “Tie My Shoes” and “Girl Song.” Bea took a personal dive into her life over the past two years and she did it the only way she knew how, by making music.
Bea’s vocals, band, and production with famed producer Rick Rubin came together to create something truly touching to the listener.
Bea said the album is about the many experiences she has gone through that helped push her into the next chapter of her life. She experienced so many things since the release of her last album, after two years “This Is How Tomorrow Moves” was a reality check for her.
“Take A Bite” was the first single on the album. The track is about finding comfort in chaos even when someone is in a negative situation. The guitar part ripples through the verses, complementing Bea’s vocals.
“Real Man” was based on three chords. It’s about being in a relationship with a bad man who doesn’t give you back the energy that you put into them. A dance was created online to go with the song and Bea started incorporating it into her live shows.
“Tie My Shoes” is one of the saddest songs on the album. It’s about longing and craving the thing you wanted as a kid. The floating instrumentals give the idea of looking back on a memory from one’s past that’s filtered with the naivety of one’s childhood.
“Girl Song” is one of the songs Bea’s most proud of. It’s about figuring out who you are through all the negative emotions one can experience. She originally wrote the song on guitar, but she transposed it to piano, giving the track a more personal sound.
“Ever Seen” was written by Bea while on tour with Taylor Swift. It’s about having a good time with friends and her boyfriend. It was originally intended to be a country song, but she turned the instrumental into something reminiscent of running through a field of flowers.
“Said I had the prettiest eyes he’d ever seen / He has the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen”
“Beaches” is Bea’s favorite song on the album. It’s about realizing and accepting happiness while being with your favorite people. She said it’s the happiest song she’s ever written and is able to relate to it at any point in her life.
“The Man Who Left Too Soon” is a very personal song. It’s about losing a loved one or someone you’re close to. Bea wrote the song to help give herself an understanding of loss. The instrumental at the beginning gives the listener a feeling of being in space, calling later on the mention of the moon in the chorus.
“This Is How It Went” is the closing track of the album. She uses this song as a way to look back on her past relationship and move on from him into a new part of her life with her partner. Its title and meaning reflect on the whole album and provide closure for Bea and the listener.
