Principal Arwen Lyp has used the PSAC before at her old high school where she enjoyed it and felt like students had a good impression of the school.

DGS welcomed a new group called the Principal Student Advisory Council (PSAC). The intent of this new add-on to DGS is to help improve the school through student advisory.

The PSAC is made up of 21 student representatives; five freshmen, sophomores and juniors, and six seniors. The selected student representatives are all different, whether it may be grades, electives or classes. This was done to ensure that there is a variety of students per level council.

Principal Arwen Lyp has used the PSAC before at her former high school where she enjoyed it and felt like students had a good impression of the school.

“I feel like at Hinsdale South students were really able to make an impact on some pretty significant things that [the school] was dealing with then, and so I just wanted to make sure that it was something I brought with me and wanted to institute here,” Lyp said.

DGS senior Johanna Rodeck is one of the first members of PSAC; she believes that this new council will bring promise to the community.

“My impression is that this council will have a very big and positive impact on our school community. We haven’t had a group like this before where the students can talk about issues that they are facing and how to improve them, and I think this will leave a longstanding legacy of improvement,” Rodeck said.

Lyp described how the PSAC will bring her a new perspective on school issues.

“Being new there’s nothing that I see from my lens that’s like ‘Ah! we have to fix this.’ I don’t see those things, I see a vibrant school community that’s nice… What I ask the students is ‘How do we take all the things that we love and do more of that,’” Lyp said.
