Top Ten Tuesday: Chance the Rapper songs
If you’re looking for a Chance the Rapper playlist that includes both upbeat and slow songs, meaningful and joyful songs, or simply a song that has a catchy tune, you’ve come to the right place. Here are my personal top 10 Chance the Rapper songs.
- Paranoia – Personally, I believe this to be one of Chance’s most underrated songs. Although the song sounds relaxing and something you can vibe to, it tells a deep and rather sad story about growing up on the South Side of Chicago and dealing with violence as a young kid that oftentimes resulted in death. He sings the phrase “I heard everybody dies in the summer so pray to God for a little more spring,” to compare how most children’s favorite part of the year is this summer, but where he was from it was the worst time of the year due to this violence.
- Same Drugs – Although the title has the word “drugs” in it the song has nothing to do with drugs and instead uses them as a metaphor to describe love and how much you craved someone at one point in your life — similar to how one would crave drugs.
- Everybody’s Something (ft. Saba & BJ The Chicago Kid) (Prod. by DJ Ozone) – Another song that has a very important message and meaning behind it. The title speaks for itself. Chance created this song to show everybody that they are worth something whether they believe it or not, especially in the chorus when he sings “Everybody’s somebody’s everything”.
- Blessings – This song is a bit more religious as it does talk about Chance praising God and being rewarded afterward. With melodies and a soothing chorus, “Blessings” is a true blessing itself.
- Brain Cells – This song isn’t as deep as his other ones but is something you can definitely vibe to.
- Hey Ma – Chance’s tribute to his mother about how his success is all thanks to her. This is another upbeat song that will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
- Lost – If you’re looking for a relaxing or soothing song this is perfect for you. This song is a vibe.
- Summer Friends – This is a song for Chance to describe his childhood and how quickly you had to grow up when exposed to such serious problems like the South Side of Chicago faces.
- Acid Rain – This is another song where Chance raps about growing up and the difficulties he faced.
- Sunday Candy – This upbeat song will brighten your mood just by listening to the first few seconds of it and never gets old.
