Senior Jacobi Spraggins placed top 8 at the IHSA state wrestling tournament. His hard work and training throughout the season were some of the things that helped him reach that milestone. He also attributed his performance to his coaches and peers.
“Without them, I would not have gotten to where I have, especially Cassius Taylor. He helped me a lot, he taught me a lot of things to help me reach that goal where I was trying to get,” Spraggins said.
Head coach Zachary Holtzman spoke about the difficulty of wrestling at the state level and the adversity they faced.
“The state of Illinois is loaded with talent and there are no easy wins at the State Farm Center. Our Mustangs have faced adversity all year long and were prepared for any obstacles ahead. Jacobi Spraggins went 2-2 and finished top 8 at 285, Noah Greene had some tough bouts at 175 and lost both but gained valuable experience as a sophomore at the state tournament,” Holtzman said.
