Athletes have many ups and downs throughout their careers; a necessary step to overcoming many of the challenges they face, is to seek help physically. Senior Gabbi Robertson hopes to be that help through a future in pediatric physical therapy.
As an athlete herself, Robertson enjoys the thought of helping young athletes in the future.
“Growing up I’ve always been pretty athletic, so to be able to help people who lived or who live a similar lifestyle as me currently, would just be relieving and make me happy,” Robertson said.
Though there are different avenues of physical therapy, Robertson plans on working with children specifically.
“I just overall enjoy a younger age group. I think they’re more enjoyable to be around, I also have experience being around younger kids and I feel like when you’re younger you’re more impressionable, I want to be able to help those who are not old enough yet to help themselves,” Robertson said.
Robertson smiles as she thinks back to her own experiences of going to physical therapy, which she walked away from with a positive time that she hopes to be able to create for the next generation.
“I just feel like I always had pretty positive experiences and walked out feeling happy and knowing that there was somebody who could help me deal with my soreness and my injuries that gave me peace of mind, so I think that it contributes a little bit to me wanting to be a physical therapist,” Robertson said.
With graduation coming soon for the senior, Robertson has plans for her future in physical therapy.
“As of now, I want to go to a four-year school. The top school that I’d like to go to right now is Central Michigan, they have a good Physical Therapy Program,” Robertson said.
