Freshman golfer Gabe Garron has been pulled up to play at the varsity level after making junior varsity.
Garron has been playing golf since he was five years old with his dad. Garron is currently ranked 30th in the state for boys aged 14-15.
“My dad got me into golf when I was around five. Ever since that first day out on the greens, the love I have for golf has just grown. After my dad got me my first set of clubs, I just knew this was going to be one of my passions I will have for a while,” Garron said.
Before high school season began, Garron would be on the greens an average of four to five times a week with his buddies.
“This summer was amazing, I got a lot of my friends into golf and they all love it now. We would a;; golf together every chance we could, we probably spent more time on different courses than we did at home,” Garron said.
Garron’s passion wore off on some of his friends. Some of them are on the JV golf team this year. However, after Garron was moved up, he has built new friendships with upperclassmen Jack Chrastka and Jaxon Flakus.
“Whenever there is a match, Jack and I always tend to be paired up to tee-off at the same time. Golfing with Jack is really fun and exciting and also funny. Golf is a lot of walking around and if Jack wasn’t there to walk around with me, the matches would definitely be different for me,” Garron said.
Chrastka also feels the same way. Chrastka has been on varsity since his sophomore year and he understands the pressure Garron has felt being the freshman on varsity.
“Gabe is honestly a really good golfer. I knew of him before high school about his skill level but wow, I did not expect this. Gabe always has us on our toes, he is such a good addition to our team this year and I am so happy that he and I always tee off together,” Chrastka said.
