Feather Park by Jon Topielski was created for the annual Cozy Autumn Game Jam, where competitors had two weeks to make a game fitting the theme of cozy autumn, with optional challenges for the creators of the games to attempt.
In the game, players play the role of a chicken, aiming to explore a park and make friends with other animals by playing minigames. The game features six enjoyable minigames ranging from rock-paper-scissors to drone piloting.
Beating one of the animals in a minigame results in becoming friends with them, which helps players get closer to finishing the game. Players can find these animals in four different areas, from forests to cornfields, adding a nice variety of characters and scenery.
The game’s soundtrack was lovely and perfectly composed by mellorine. It’s relaxing, calming and perfectly fits the feeling of the game. The game also has two other amazing tracks, a chaotic jazzy piece when playing the minigames and a calming lullaby for when players enter the barn.
The game’s graphics are one of the best things about it–the characters, objects and environment use a pixelated graphic style with a warm, comforting color palette. Just walking around players can see the small details put into the game, from leaves falling to the ground to corn blowing in the wind. The game was expertly crafted to create the perfect cozy autumn atmosphere.
The game is great, however, there are some issues with it– it’s short and doesn’t offer much content. It’s impressive how much content is in the game considering the two weeks they had to make it, but the few minigames offered are basic and don’t offer much of a challenge. With more time, this game likely could’ve been even better.
Feather Park is a comforting and relaxing experience that can be thoroughly enjoyed by many. The warm graphics, great soundtrack and cast of adorable characters are all highlights players can experience. Although the game is quite short and lacks some content, it’s still a delightful experience to enjoy as fall approaches.
