Thrifting has become a mainstream staple of teenage culture over the years. It is a common activity to do whenever you’re bored or just want some new clothes, at a way cheaper price. This is my list of the Top 10 thrift or vintage stores in the Downers Grove area.
#10: Goodwill (Lombard)
Starting off with a Goodwill, where everyone begins their thrifting adventures. This Goodwill has a lot more home decorations, compared to clothes. Most of the time I never find anything I love, but it’s still worth a look.
#9: Antiques of Naperville
Antiques of Naperville is a super cute antique shop located right in the heart of Downtown Naperville. The store is more on the pricier side, just due to the vintage nature of it. They have a lot of cool items such as jewelry and sports memorabilia.
#8: Plato’s Closet (Lombard)
Plato’s closet has made its way into the mainstream over the years, as they typically carry trendier clothes. The one in Lombard is always a hit or miss for me personally. They carry a bunch of brands such as lululemon, but sometimes their prices can be high for a thrift store.
#7: Goodwill (Westmont)
Yes, I know, another Goodwill. But this one is also a fairly good one to check out– located on 63rd street, it is convenient to stop by. They have a good variety of clothes and decorations, so surely you will probably find something you like.
#6: Goodwill (Bolingbrook)
This Goodwill is also conveniently located as it is right in Bolingbrook, only a few minutes from The Promenade Mall. This one has a wide spread of specifically men’s clothes, but does lack in women’s. If your style is more masculine and you’re looking to get into thrifting, definitely check this one out.
#5: Salvation Army (Darien)
I feel like most don’t think of the Salvation Army as a store to go thrifting at, but it is definitely worth a shot. They have some pretty cute clothes that would be great to add to your closet.
#4: Plato’s Closet (Naperville)
This Plato’s closet is one of my favorites near us for sure. They always have a bunch of clothes that are trendy and fit in with the current seasons or styles. Their prices are usually reasonable, but they do have some nicer items that are worth the splurge.
#3: Jane Pabon Boutique (Geneva)
Jane Pabon is an upscale consignment store in Downtown Geneva and it is to die for. They sell vintage and designer clothes that are gorgeous, but they are definitely on the pricier side. I even almost bought my prom dress from here, which is why it makes its way into the top three.
#2: The Gingham Tree Resale Shop (Downers Grove)
I feel like a lot of people don’t know about this store due to its hidden nature. Gingham Tree is located right outside of Good Samaritan Hospital but should be added to everyone’s list this summer. It’s a favorite of mine as I always find the cutest jewelry and sweaters there.
#1: Goodwill (Downers Grove)
Okay, hear me out; I know this is just a classic or normal Goodwill but it has never failed me. I have found some of the cutest pieces at this Goodwill over the years. Some of my wardrobe staples are from this store and it is worth the crosstown trip to search for new clothes.
