The lack of customers occupying Taco Express in Westmont is no reflection of the quality of service. A quaint, family-owned taco joint, tucked away in the corner of the Fairview Center in Westmont offers excellent service and even better food.
Though the outside of the building is quite outdated and nothing special, looks are deceiving. Upon entry it is evident that the food is going to be exceptional-scents of corn, steak, rice and other traditional foods fill the air making your taste buds water. The extensive menu covering the entire wall leaves you with endless possibilities of entrees.
I ordered the two steak tacos on a corn shell with no lettuce. They were the perfect blend of flavors, none more overpowering than the other. Each taco comes with your choice of filling, cheese, lettuce and tomato on a corn or flour tortilla. It was apparent within the first bite that this establishment had perfected their recipe.
The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked, accompanied by an exquisite smokey hint and a warm tortilla to seal the deal. The tomatoes topping the taco were freshly sliced and still cold from the fridge. The contrast of the warm meat and tortilla conflicting with the cool tomatoes was a nice compliment.
The cold, green salsa also added a nice contrast of temperatures, enhancing the flavor and adding a nice hint of spice to the taco.
Priced at $3.49 a taco, they are well worth it. The total price for all of the food was $7.63.
To amplify the experience, the service each customer received was outstanding. The food came out almost instantly and was perfectly prepared. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and catered to everyone’s needs.
Taco Express is decked out in traditional Mexican artwork; traditionally designed wallpaper circles the walls. Tucked in the corners of the restaurant there are cacti as tall as the ceiling, adding a fun flare.
Overall, Taco Express was a ten out of ten and a must-visit with outstanding service, food and prices. I will definitely be returning soon.
