Ermel will be remembered by friends and family for his kindness towards others and passion for flying.

On Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021 DGS alumni Joseph Ermel (19) passed away. He will forever be remembered by his friends and family, alongside the Downers Grove community.

At 17, Ermel earned his Private Pilot Certification and later was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 15. Alongside participating in the EAA, Ermel was a student at Southern Illinois University, focusing his studies on aviation flight and technologies.

Services will be at Modell Funeral Home in Darien, IL on Nov. 5 from 2-7 p.m. with the service starting at 6 p.m.

On Saturday Nov. 6, there will be the flyover memorial at Clow Airport from 12-2 p.m.

Friends and family will remember Ermel as a smart and lively person, always wanting to make others laugh. Many say that Ermel was an inspiration to everyone, always challenging them to be their best and kindest self. Ermel showed this by volunteering every year at the EAA’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI.
