Attendance, Absences and Tardies

Any documents pertaining to a students absence from class should be picked up or turned in at the Attendance Office.

Students should always attend all of their classes. However, if you have a reason to be out of school or leave school early, you must have a parent call into the attendance office at 630-795-8550 and state your name, ID number, year in school, date of absence and reason for absence. The following reasons are valid to get an excused absence:

-Illness
-Death in the immediate family
-Family emergency
-Court appearance
-Observance of a religious holiday
-College visits (with appropriate documentation)
-Circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent or guardian for the safety or health of the student
-Other situations beyond the control of the student as approved by the Principal or Superintendent
-Attending a military honors funeral to sound TAPS
-Student’s parent/guardian is an active duty member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting

Students are allowed five excused absences without documentation. On a student’s sixth absence they will be required to provide documentation for their absence in the form of a doctor’s note or court papers. This documentation can be taken to the Attendance Office for due processing.

If a student’s absence is unexcused they can expect to receive a call home by either a dean and/or teacher and potential disciplinary actions like detention or a suspension. Below is a list of some examples of unexcused absences.

-Oversleeping
-Car trouble
-Missing the bus
-Missing one class to study or prepare for another
-Giving rides to the airport
-Babysitting
-Shopping
-Activities following prom or homecoming
-Senior skip days
-Working
-Leaving for lunch

Students that are over 20 minutes late to first period or more than five minutes late to any other class will be considered unexcused. Otherwise, they will be considered tardy. The disciplinary procedure is shown below.

Tardy #10-14 = 1 hour detention at each occurrence
Tardy #15-19 = 2 hours detention at each occurrence
Tardy #20+ = 4 hour detention at each occurrence
