Happy Justin Yang!

DGS senior Justin Yang has been playing badminton for almost six years. After taking some time off and falling in the rankings, Yang has worked his way from ranked 88 to number 19 in the nation in U19 in badminton.

Q: When was the last time you got yelled at by a coach?

A: Yesterday, because I haven’t showed up to practice in three weeks. Then when I came, my coach wanted me to pursue the Olympics because I was his first student, and I told him I didn’t want to go to the Olympics, and that I wanted to go to college instead because I realized you can’t make money in the US for playing badminton; the US is like the worst at the sport.

Q: When was the last time you won a tournament?

A: This year in February, when we had one of the largest U.S. badminton ranking tournaments, and I won one of my events.

Q: The last time you wanted to yell at a freshman?

A:  Actually never, actually I really don’t care about the freshmen. Like I just pretend they don’t exist.

Q: The last time you let someone down?

A: At a badminton tournament three years ago I got paired up with one to the best players in the United States, who eventually went on to be on team USA. I got so nervous that I basically choked during the game.

Q: The last time you were afraid of the dark?

A: I am pretty sure I still am, every time especially after I watch a scary movie I remember one time after I watched “Chuckie.” My mom made me throw out the trash–I literally sprinted out the door to the trash can and sprinted back in.
