2018 has easily delivered smash hit after smash hit at the box office.

As 2018 transitions into the fall season, so do the movies. More Halloween themed movies begin to pop up on TV, and every year brings new horror movies to the big screen.

Looking back, however, 2018 has had its fair share of amazing movies that have kept people talking long after their release. Without further ado, here are the best movies of 2018 so far.

“Black Panther”

Perhaps the most powerful and revolutionary movie of the year, “Black Panther” takes the superhero genre to new levels, as Ryan Coogler blows the doors open with a complex story in the MCU that ties together many of society’s biggest discussions in a visual masterpiece. It is easily another gem in the collection of Marvel’s best movies and perhaps may take the genre to a place it has never been before — the Oscars.

“Incredibles 2”

Disney Pixar’s sequel lived up to the hype, as “Incredibles 2” delivered in matching the genres of superhero and animation, along with the theme of family. A truly heartwarming film that brings loved ones together, Pixar continues its outstanding run as the Barr family hopes to pick up Oscar gold come February.

“Avengers: Infinity War”

While many did not believe in Marvel’s ability to bring together so many talented actors, actresses, and storylines, the Russo brothers undoubtedly pulled off the biggest movie blockbuster of a generation. Josh Brolin’s brilliance as Thanos brings comparisons to Heath Ledger’s Joker and James Earl Jones’s Darth Vader, as the quick pace and thrill of the superheroes culminate the ten years of storytelling in a gut-punching, plot-twist ending that perfectly brings the Avengers into their last act.

“A Quiet Place”

The husband-and-wife duo of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt exceeded expectations in this horror flick, as the creativity and direction brought to the film by the two helped drive this exceptional plot. Viewers are easily sucked into the world that the family lives in, as fear is the main force that helps make this movie succeed. Krasinski and Blunt’s vision is terrific and packs an emotional punch for a frightful audience.

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

This moving documentary takes a look at the life of Fred Rogers, the innovative mind behind the children’s television show. Director Morgan Neville provides a timely look at the life of Rogers, whose goodwill, faith, kindness and charity shine a light in our dark modern-day world, leaving a void of nostalgia that only brings back memories of our childhood.

“Mission Impossible — Fallout”

Tom Cruise’s sixth entry into the Mission Impossible franchise breathes life into action movies, as Christopher McQuarrie’s storytelling and cinematography keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. The action and drama only add to the stakes, as the two-and-a-half-hour runtime throws twists and turns that perfectly encapsulate everything an action movie should be.

“Paddington 2”

This heartwarming tale of the classic bear preaches the simple message of the importance of family in this riveting and humorous sequel. While there is often the stereotype of sequels never exceeding the original, “Paddington 2” equally challenges its original through screenplay, acting, and a message that anyone and everyone can connect to.

“BlackKlansman”

Spike Lee’s take on the true story of an African-American man infiltrating the new Ku Klux Klan chapter in Colorado Springs in the 1970’s speaks to his ability as a director, as his perfect balance between humor and drama allows for audiences to encapsulate this thought-provoking film in a time of racial tension throughout America.
