With move in season rapidly approaching, incoming college freshmen everywhere are adding more and more to their Amazon carts. Here’s what many forget.
Mattress pad
Dorm beds are not world-renowned for comfort; a mattress pad goes on top of your dorm bed to make it softer and improve sleep quality. Make sure you check the size of your personal dorm bed before purchasing your mattress pad.
Shower caddy
Often, dorm showers are a short walk away from your room. You don’t want to be lugging around bottles of shampoo in your arms, balancing 100 different products. A shower caddy holds all of your shower toiletries, so you can carry it to and from the bathroom.
Robe
For communal showers, a robe is a must. Walking from the bathroom to your dorm room in just a towel will not be the most comfortable situation, for you or your hall mates.
Shower shoes
Keep your feet safe: communal showers can be breeding grounds for all sorts of germs and fungi. Often, college students opt for simple flip flops when showering.
Space heater and fan
Dorm room temperature can be variable, don’t let it control your personal comfort. Space heaters help ensure warmth in your room, while in the summer, fans are a must. Even if your building has heating and AC, you can never be fully confident in the building being maintained at the right temperature.

Extension cords
You never know where the outlets are going to be in your room, and most students need to plug in multiple appliances at once. Whether it’s charging your phone, hair appliances, or a TV, extension cords are extremely beneficial to remember.
Cold medication
When sickness season sweeps in, you want to be ready with all of the first line defenses your mom has for you back home. Don’t forget your cold syrup, lozenges and pain killers.
Air freshener
Keep that dorm fresh! It is extremely easy to make your room smell like food, or other unsavory odors. A quick air freshener eradicates this problem easily.
Chip clips
Your roommate and you will undeniably have a stash of snacks. You need chip clips to not only keep these snacks fresh, but keep your room clean.
Scissors
Scissors seem obvious, but they’ll slip your mind until it’s time to cut off a tag or open a package.
