With consistent passing ending in kills firing, the varsity boys volleyball team dominated Willowbrook, earning the win in two sets, 25-21 and 25-17, and remaining undefeated in the conference, 7-0.

“Our passing was pretty good tonight, and anytime we can pass the ball well and get our middles involved, that’s a pretty good indication of how our level of play is going to be,” head coach Kurt Steuer said. “If we can pass the ball in the back row and set those guys up in the front row then we’re doing a pretty good job.”

Senior outsider hitter Tanner Sains led the team with the most collective ins and kills, with six each. He also had no hitting errors.

“We had a lot of good hits out there, [but] we also had a couple errors that we need to clean up so I think overall we just have to play a cleaner game and work on those things going into the rest of the season,” Sains said.

The team collectively had 11 service errors and six hitting errors that Steuer plans to help them improve upon in the upcoming games.

“[We had] way too many service errors. They know it, we practice serving every day so it’s something behind the line that individually they’ll have to work on. It’s motor muscle-memory and hopefully we become a better serving team,” Steuer said.

Senior outside hitter Matthew Molnar had two ins and six kills with four errors. He also had one block assist and the most collective passes on the team.

“I think our receiving was pretty good and that we just need to stay consistent and pass the ball well,” Molnar said. “I think we have a lot of potential, so we just have to make sure we clean up some things.”

The Mustangs’ next home game is April 20 at 5:30 p.m. against Glenbard East.
