You know the phrase, “’Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’”? Whoever said that was wrong. I believe the correct phrasing would be, “Chocolate is everybody’s best friend”.

Today is Valentine’s Day and every couple is getting something nice for their special someone, but why spend an extensive amount of money on diamonds or a fancy restaurant when you could make something equally as special without emptying your bank account in the process?

I have created a sweet treat that is guaranteed to exceed Valentine’s Day expectations. Although this dessert is not new, it is most definitely going to surprise your special someone.

These are what I like to call Marbled Hearts. Edible, marble cookie dough, covered in milk chocolate and cut into the shape of a heart — now that’s what I call love.

This recipe is easy to follow and takes no more than an hour, and that includes setting the dough in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Cookie Dough Ingredients — Recipe courtesy of Ashley from FRUGAL Coupon Living

~ Makes at least 30 hearts

– 1 cup flour

– 6 tablespoons sugar

-6 tablespoons brown sugar

-½ teaspoon salt

-½ teaspoon vanilla extract

-½ cup butter — softened in the microwave

-½ teaspoon baking soda

-2 tablespoons water

-4 tablespoons milk

-As many chocolate chips as your heart desires

Instructions

  1. In a medium sized bowl, combine the flour, sugars, salt, vanilla extract, baking soda, water and butter until smooth. It should become floppy, moving almost entirely together when you stir.
  2. Dump and stir in the chocolate chips until they melt a little bit.
  3. Use a cookie sheet, cover it in parchment paper and use a spatula to press and spread the cookie dough until it is about ¼ inch thick.
  4. Place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  5. Use a small, heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut as many hearts as you can. Take the scraps and use your hands to meld them together and spread them out once more. Continue the process until all of the cookie dough has been used.

*If there is still a little extra, feel free to eat your homemade deliciousness.

  1. Pour one cup of chocolate chips into a small bowl as well as the milk. Place in the microwave for 20 seconds, then stir. Repeat the process until all of the chocolate has been melted.
  2. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie dough and quickly place back in the refrigerator for an extra 10 minutes.
  3. Your Valentine’s Day surprise is ready to eat!
