HS4 at Midnight–no seriously this time. Last night at midnight Harry Styles released his highly anticipated fourth studio album Kiss all the time, Disco Occasionally. It has received high praise from top reviewers who describe it as a stark contrast to his previous work. But as a dedicated Styles fan, this is my ranking for the songs in his latest album.

12. Ready, Steady, Go
While yes Ready, Steady, Go is last, it is not by any means a bad song. Parts of the vocals in this song are similar to the vibes of bands like The Strokes or F.U.N, giving it an late 2000’s feel. However, the increase of tempo at the end makes me feel like we are building to the “Go” he alluded to in the title. The instrumentation is fun but at times feels a little bit overwhelming. This is not a bad track however in an album full of gem,s this simply feel to the bottom of the list.

11. Season 2 Weight Loss
This song sounds like a fever dream. With floaty vocals and repetitive choruses this song transports the listener to a state of drifting. The lyrics address the problems that can come with the feeling of constantly needing to reinvent yourself to stay relevant. Lyrics like “Hoping you will love me now/Do you?” reveal a darker and more complex side of fame, where celebrities feel they have to become someone new to remain relevant. This song might be one that climbs up my rankings as I listen more, but it didn’t stand out on the first or second listen.

10. Carla’s song
Carla’s song has very clear 80s inspiration especially from the synth that is almost reminiscent of the Stranger Things introduction. This song is one of the most reminiscent of projects like Harry’s House and reminds the listener at the end of this album that is very different that this is still the same old Harry. It feels like a proper send of for an album that Styles spent a large chunk of time on and like a proper thank you and goodbye to the fans who long awaited his return.

9. Aperture
This song has really had the chance to grow on me as it was the first single he released it. When he allowed fans around the world to hear it early no one person was able to actually describe what the sound sounded like, from Charli XCX to Donna Summers, no one could agree. When you listen to this song you can understand why. With a beat that lets you really feel the music and the repetition of “We Belong Together” it was clear that this is one of the dance songs on the album. It feels like a summer fever dream in the best way and was a very catchy lead single. However compared to the rest of the album it doesn’t stand out, perhaps it is because I have already heard it so much.

8. Are you listening yet?
This song sounds like it should be in The Greatest Showman–no I won’t give a further explanation. This really encaptures the risks that Styles take on this album in terms of productions. Whether it is the alien laser type sounds he uses or the mix of a strong bass, electric guitar solo, and heavy synth, it is chaotic in the best way. Its placement in the middle of the album asks the listener if they are listening yet?

7. Pop
Pop is Cinemas older sister. With an almost Imagine Dragons like feel Pop is staunchly pop. With the continued throughline of synth but also a heavy emphasis on drums pop is loud in all the best ways. Here Styles prove that he can master the art of early 2000’s pop with ease and is simply a fun listen.

6. Coming up roses
This song is sure to be used in Bridgerton next season. The use of a symphony sounding background gives this song a wedding like feel. However, do not be fooled by the beautiful accompaniment; this is some of Styles most vulnerable writing on the album. With lyrics like “Now I see your tears on account of my wants/And now it appears that I’m feeling guilty and worried dear /That you think that I might not want you here,” Styles is letting us into part of the last four years of his life that he has spent mostly our of the public eye. So please 2026 brides, do not be fooled by the beautiful accompaniment.

5. Paint by the numbers
This song is so good and if I could tie it with the four songs above it, I would. This song reminds me of a Beatles song and it feels almost nostalgic. There is some debate about who this song is about, but Styles is notoriously vague in his lyricism so we will likely never know. A song that is criminally short and ends with my favorite instrument, a saxophone, places it securely in the top 5.

4. Dance No More
This song has clear David Bowie inspiration and is arguably one of the only “Disco” songs on the album. Harry meant it when he said Disco Occasionally. The strong bass throughout gives the song some of the most soul on the album. The call and response Styless utilizes by having a chorus of other voices makse this not only catchy but an incredibly well produced song. Dance No More will have you saying “Respect your mother” to yourself for months to come.

3. Waiting Game
This song sounds like it would play over b-roll of a month long montage in a cheesy romantic comedy where the female love interest works on herself after a roadblock in her relationship, but in the best way. This song is also reminiscent of Style’s work on Harry’s House. In my opinion it is one of the most relatable songs on the album and one that teenage girls everywhere will be singing while thinking about their failed situationship. Some songs are just easy to listen too and this is one of them.

2. Taste Back
Taste Back is sure to be the accompanying music to thousands of The Summer I Turned Pretty edits in the near future. However this song is just good. It is a song for the background of a quiet night or an song to angrily yell along lyrics like “Did you get your taste back?/ Or do you just need a little love?” Taste Back is the type of song you just want to turn on in the car and feels authentically Harry.

1. American Girls
This isn’t entirely because I am an American girl, but us American girls really won with this song. It is no wonder that this is the second single on the album because it is catchy and a perfect song for summer. Between the intoxicating chorus and buildup to the last half of the song I can not wait to listen to this song with my windows down this summer. The place this song will sound the best though, live in person, curse you 30 night residency at Madison Square Garden. Dare I say I can hear the One Direction influence in this song. I will surely be singing this song nonstop for the next few weeks.

Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally surprised me in all the best ways. After a nearly four year hiatus, I had no clue what to expect from this album and it fulfilled everything that I had dreamed about in the build up.
