Approximately five years have passed since the events in the first “Wicked” film. Now, in “Wicked: For Good,” the two protagonists have gone their seperate ways. Glinda is a public figure for Oz, while Elphaba is living in exile in the forest.

On Nov 22, 2024, “Wicked”, a movie adaptation of a beloved broadway musical starring Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (Glinda) hit the big screen. Around a year later on Nov 21, 2025, the stars reprised their roles for the sequel, “Wicked: For Good.”

While the first movie followed the first act, the sequel follows the storyline of the second act.

Elphaba has taken the title of Wicked Witch of the West, and is living in the Ozian forest after getting cast out from society. Glinda’s story is the opposite of this, as she is living in the palace in Emerald city, loved by society. An uprising of ozmopolitans against The Wicked Witch of the West leads Elphaba and Glinda to rekindle their friendship to restore balance to Oz.

The acting was amazing, and the singing was even better.

Much like the first film, the soundtrack is absolutely thrilling. The song “No Good Deed” gave me goosebumps in the theatre. It’s about Elphaba’s decision to accept being wicked, and how her previous attempts to be good had failed time and time again, and had broken her down.

Erivo does a wonderful job of portraying Elphaba. The character development for Elphaba is incredibly powerful. Erivo does a really good job at playing a character who only turned into a villain because of how they were treated. It’s a message to the audience that no one is really born wicked.

Grande stunned me in this film. Some weren’t a huge fans of her casting as Glinda in the first film, but in this sequel, Grande shines. Grande uses a lot of facial expressions and body language to express Glinda’s emotions, such as a tearful gaze when learning heartbreaking information or fidgeting with her hands when she’s nervous. Not only that, but her singing is heavenly, as her soft and higher voice reflects the nature of Glinda’s sweet, bubbly character.

The green theme for Elphaba and the pink theme for Glinda continues in this film.

The costumes were crafted for the characters with such detail, that it would be disrespectful to not acknowledge the beauty. The makeup and costume department executed flawless costumes for the characters, which only elevated the presentation of the film. Consistency in Glinda’s pink outfits represents how her character hasn’t changed much, and Elphaba’s all-black outfits can represent her submission into being fully wicked.

This movie also takes place during the events of “The Wizard of Oz”. Many characters from the first “Wicked” movie are revealed to have prominent parts in Dorothy’s journey through Oz. “Wicked: For Good” intertwines both the previous Wicked movie and “The Wizard of Oz” together seamlessly, weaving a beautifully crafted story rich in emotion and storytelling.

Every single scene in this movie was crafted so beautifully, with such vivid detail. The audience will be captivated by the extravagant designs, every color was brilliant and every special effect was striking.

This movie was an incredible sequel to the first, and a satisfying wrap-up to the franchise. Compared to the second movie, “Wicked: For Good” has more emotional depth and investigates the separate paths Elphaba and Glinda have been walking along instead of being together.

It was a compelling, enchanting franchise that deserved all of the publicity it received. “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” is a duology everyone can enjoy, and a charming spin on the classic story of “The Wizard of Oz.”
