The girls co-op gymnastics team, The Trostangs demolished their competition and set a new team record of 147.825 as they hosted the West Suburban Gold Conference meet on Feb. 1, 2025.

The conference includes co-op Hinsdale South/Lemont Hornets, who took second place as a team with a 139.700 team score, leaving them as the Trostangs closest competitor. Other conference teams included the Willowbrook Warriors, Leyden Eagles, Addison Trail Blazers and Morton Mustangs.

The Trostangs kicked off their meet on the Uneven Bars with some impressive performances.

DGN sophomore Caroline Phillip started the Trostangs with a hit routine and landed herself a 9.025 score. Followed by her teammates, DGN senior Allison Palansky and DGN junior Kaelyn Landry both scoring 8.900s. DGS senior Genevieve Herion held the top score for the Trostangs on bars with a 9.325. DGS sophomore Edie Condon scored an 8.800, having been the only gymnast attempting a release move throughout the whole meet.

Herion placed second on bars overall, being beaten out by Hinsdale South senior Anya Patel with an impressive 9.425 score. Phillip placed third, Landry and Palansky tied for fifth, and Condon placed seventh. The top 10 on bars consisted only of Downers Grove and Hinsdale/Lemont gymnasts.

The Trostangs then continued on to the Balance Beam where they strung together 10 (five junior varsity, five varsity) stunning routines with zero falls.

“I am so happy we hit 10 for 10 because all the girls have been working so hard throughout the season and it was so nice to see the hard work payoff,” Herion said.

Herion earned herself a staggering 9.600 score on beam with a beautiful routine, landing her first out of the competition. Condon placed second with a 9.425, and Phillip placed third with a 9.250. Landry then followed with a 9.175.

Having the Trostangs take the top four spots on beam, Patel broke the streak with a 8.975 coming in fifth, getting the Hornets on the podium. The Trostangs then returned to the podium with DGN junior Emilie Kuchta placing sixth with an 8.750.

After an impressive Beam performance, the Trostangs moved on to the Floor Exercise.

Palansky started the Trostangs off with a solid 9.000 performance; her first nine of the season on floor. Landry followed with a 8.975, and Kuchta with an 8.500. Phillip and Herion then brought up the rear with the Trostangs highest scores; a 9.325, and a 9.350.

Willowbrook senior Naomi Campbell showed out with a powerful routine and landed herself a 9.025 and fourth place. Palansky and Landry followed, taking fifth and sixth place.

The Trostangs then concluded their meet on the Vault.

The Trostangs all landed their vaults, allowing them to all score in the nines. Condon started the Trostangs off with a 9.300, where Kuchta followed with a 9.200. Landry and Phillip then came in with a 9.325 and a 9.350. Herion finished off the meet for the Trostangs with a high 9.600 as the only gymnast competing a Yurchenko Layout.

That 9.600 landed her first place, followed by Patel with a 9.450. The Trostangs then followed in a line as Phillip took third, Landry fourth, Condon fifth and Kuchta sixth.

Herion and Patel were teammates growing up and are now on opposing teams fighting for the number one spot on everything they compete.

“These incredible gymnasts [Herion and Patel] have worked extremely hard all season and their performance and success has shown and will continue to grow as the season finishes,” Condon said.

The Trostangs ended the meet all together with an astounding and record breaking 147.825 team score beating their last record of 147.550.

“Our hardwork has paid off and it is a great way to end our regular season, but we still have things to work on to get our skills more consistent at competitions,” Landry said.

The Trostangs only hope to improve their scores and performances at their next meet, which is Regionals on Feb. 6, as they plan to continue their state run.
