Senior Jaxon Flakus, defenseman for the Dupage Stars has had a rough start to his senior year. In the beginning of the season, he endured a concussion and a fractured wrist from a hit on the ice. This gave him some setbacks but is now having an impact on the team’s success.

The hit took Flakus out for 2 weeks, he didn’t really know how to react to the hit but realized that something was wrong.

“When I got hit, my head was dizzy, and I didn’t really feel my wrist until my adrenaline wore off. I’m used to getting hit, but this time it knocked me down for a second,” Flakus said.

Flakus started slow in his recovery, he had to start by skating with no contact. Then he worked on his individual skill until he could get back into full contact practice.

“Recovery was tough, I started by skating and doing individual work by myself. I had to play with a brace on, which felt weird, but I got used to it,” Flakus said.

Coach Brian Barnes pointed out how Flakus is a leader for the team. Losing him in the start of the season was not expected but he showed resilience by helping the team through practices still.

“When he was out he still showed his leadership, He came to every practice and helped the guys who were taking his position,” Barnes said.

Barnes made note of how Flakus came back with impact when he got on the ice. He scored in his first game back and helped win the game.

“When he got back on the ice he didn’t take long to make a difference for the team. He scored a crucial goal to help us win the game,” Barnes said.

Flakus will continue his senior season fully healthy. Him and the stars continue there 4-2-1 season Nov. 8.

On Nov. 8, Flakus will be stepping back on the ice to continue his last year of youth hockey.
