Q: What special talents or secret hobbies do you have that your students do not know about?

I like to go see live music. Music is my “thing,” so on the weekends typically I will go out with my friends to music festivals. As my students know, I also love to travel. I don’t think I do anything weird, but I am involved in a bowling league. I personally think I am really bad at it, but it’s just to hang out. Last year, we tied with the church ladies for last place. They are like 80 years old.

Q: Outside of Spanish and English, are you able to speak a native language? If not, describe a language that seems interesting to you.

French because my friend speaks French. I tried to learn some French when me and my daughter went to Paris two years ago. Wherever I travel, I try to learn some of the language so that the people from the area appreciate that you are trying. Even if you might butcher the wording, you still made that effort to learn their language.”

Q: Where is your favorite place to travel? Is it somewhere adventurous or are you a more relaxed vacationer?

I am not a relaxed vacationer. I like to see the sights and experience the culture. A lot of my travel is international because I want to be exposed to different cultures and areas. Sitting on a beach is not for me.

Q: What fictional character (book, movie, or TV show) do you share the most similarities with?

You know my daughter and I are very close. I haven’t seen that much of it, but I started watching Gilmore Girls. I’ve only seen a couple of episodes, but I guess the relationship this woman has with her daughter resembles my daughter and me.

Q: If you had the option to change your last name from Montero, would you? Why?

If I had to change my last name, it would probably have to be to a hispanic last name. You know what I mean? When I got remarried I didn’t change my last name from Warren, it’s still Montero. I like Montero so much because I am a Spanish teacher, and Montero is hispanic. Also, there is a Cubs player with the last name Montero, but I can’t remember his first name, and a famous actor whose name is Montero. I always tell people that he is my husband, even though he is not. So overall, I would not want to change my last name if I have the opportunity.
