In memoriam: Former DGS student Mia Vlna passes away at 17

Vlna will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and optimism

On Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021 Mia Vlna (17) passed away. While she is gone, she will always be remembered by her friends and family.

Vlna enjoyed singing and participated in choir, making it into the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) in elementary school. She also loved cheer and joined the cheer team in middle school, making it to the all-star cheer team.

Services were held at Wallace Broadview Funeral Home in Broadview, Illinois. The visitation was held Sept. 28 from 4-7 p.m. On Wednesday Sept. 29, friends and family were able to attend a wake at 12:30 p.m. and a funeral service at 1 p.m. An interment service followed at 2 p.m. at Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside.

Friends remember her as funny and sweet, and her friends say that she loved every single person she met. They said they will miss the beautiful voice that she had.

She was survived by her grandfather Lou and grandmother Kate, her sister Tati, her sister Gina, sister Wanda and brother Adam.
