Bomb Squad called in to Downers Grove Public Library

Around 2:30 on Wednesday Dec. 2, a suspicious package was left on the second floor in the Downers Grove Public Library. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded quickly to the threat and the building was evacuated. This was the same day as the San Bernardino, CA, mass shooting, making the incident even more suspicious.

Melissa Doornbos, Public Relations Manager at the Downers Grove Public Library, talks about the events of that night.

Police and staff took precautionary measures and evacuated the library after seeing a suspicious package inside. The library was reopened after police cleared the building. We don’t have any information about why this happened”, Doornbos said.

No one was hurt and the package was found to be harmless. Doornbos expresses her gratitude for the officers involved.

“We are grateful that the package was found non-hazardous and grateful for our responding officers,” Doornbos said.
