With spring break right around the corner, this means that both Downers Grove South baseball and softball teams are off to compete on both of their spring trips. The softball team is headed to Cookeville, Tennessee and the baseball team is headed to Anaheim, California.

With the softball team’s trip to Tennessee underway, softball coach Lauren Berg gave some information on what the trip holds for them.

“We leave Wednesday, March 28 and we come back Sunday, April 1 … We have two practice JV games on Thursday night, and then the tournament starts on Friday. It is a four game minimum guarantee, so the tournament finishes on Saturday night,” Berg said.

Within the span of these few days, the girls’ softball team will have a chance to impress in their four games and try to come out with a great experience.

Varsity softball player Kara McKenna is looking forward to their trip and believes it can be a positive experience for the team.

“I am very excited for the spring break trip … We definitely want to improve upon how we did last season at this tournament and come away with some wins,” McKenna said.

McKenna believes that this trip can only help the team. She is excited for the growth that the rest of the girls will gain when they leave.

“I am very confident in the team and think we have the ability to do very well. We know these games are going to be competitive and we’re excited for that. This trip is a great opportunity to play very good competition early in the season and I think it will really help us prepare for the rest of the season when we get back,” McKenna said.

With the girls start underway, the boys baseball trip follows right behind them. Head Coach Darren Orel is ready to take on their competition in Anaheim.

“Were taking twenty three players, and it’s about 900 dollars per kid and that doesn’t quite cover all of the costs so our booster club does some fundraising and donations … Were leaving on March 24 and we return the twenty eighth, we play five varsity games and one JV game, it is in anaheim california, in the suburbs of anaheim and it is run by the lions club,” Orel said.

Although things may be different than previous years for the boys team, Brett Reigler, varsity baseball player believes, it’s still gonna be exciting.

“This year it is a little different, usually we fly out of Midway and into John Wayne, but this year were flying out of O’Hare to LAX so it may be a little hectic in the beginning … But going, we are guaranteed six games, its a little bit extra money but it is totally worth it and were really excited,” Reigler said.

With both teams excited for the upcoming trip, they intend to do their best to perform the way they want.
